Carborundum is a so called man made crystal, and it was first created in the 1800's in an attempt to create diamonds with the use of electricity. It's known for its spiky formation and iridiscent shimmer.
This one is extremely sparkly in purple, blue, green and turquoise. Expect it to be even more sparkly in real life, it was difficult capturing on camera! It has an oblong shape and on one side it's full of spikes and the other side has more of a blunt end.
The stone is very rough and sharp! The backside has a layer of clay to protect the stone from scratching your clothes, but you will need to be a bit careful as the sides are open to show the pretty structure of the stone. Think of this necklace as a piece of art that is best suited to wear at special occasions and not for everyday wear.
The clay is painted in chalk paint and protected by a semi gloss varnish. The cord is fake leather with rivets.
Although the piece is large the stone itself is not very heavy.
